Keeps the belt from coming off the idler pulley when the belt is disengaged (slack). This part sometimes is damaged when spindles fail/break or the belt breaks. Used on 42" decks without PTO engaged blades. To ensure this part goes with your machine you should always go by the model number and serial number, which is normally found under the seat of your riding mower. If you have a John Deere, the model number is on the side of the tractor, and will also be printed on an identification tag located below the operator's seat or on the back of the lower frame between the rear wheels. The serial number (PIN) is 13 or 17 digits long. If you have a Hustler, the model and serial number decal is located on the frame directly below and to the left of the operator's platform or on the left frame side rail.
