Since 1999 Tree I.V. has taken the "Poke holes in a bucket" method and made it much better. By using the Root Seeker injector we changed it from a surface watering system to a Deep-Root soaker. Improvements include 1) No chance of run-off, 2) Significantly less water needed because the surface mulch is left dry, and 3) Roots are encouraged to grow deeper and discouraged from forming near the surface. A deep, sprawling root system is the secret to healthy, wind strong, independent trees. Tree I.V. acts on that secret for new trees, while being easy to install and remove at any time. This is why consistent, weekly watering with Tree I.V. will give you an independent tree in just a few growing seasons. For new plantings of large trees, move it to the drip line. This is where the ingenious natural design of a tree funnels rainwater, so why shouldn't you? Watering around the trunk with bag feeders DOES NOT promote outgrowing roots. We don't generally advise using any watering product on large, established trees because the benefits are small, and installation and flow are more problematic. An exception is if you are feeding supplements. Tree I.V. drains at the natural percolation rate of your soil, which is normally about 15 minutes. A soaked root-well allows all the roots to uptake early in the week, then grow outward looking for more later in the week. This is a natural a soak-dry cycle that imitates weekly passing rainstorms. Some customers are disappointed that our buckets don't stay full for a week (See our negative reviews). We feel that slow drip irrigation is worse than no irrigation at all, because the roots will concentrate at the drip source. Again, Tree I.V. is NOT slow drip irrigation.
