The pieces are simple, yet elegant in design.  They are 90% plastic filled which makes them heavier than plastic pieces that are hollow and gives them better stability on the chess board. 34 pieces in total are included in black and ivory including two extra queens, a hallmark of a good chess set.
• READY FOR TOURNAMENT PLAY: These chess pieces meet the World Chess Federation's (FIDE) and United States Chess Federation's (USCF) height and proportions standards for tournament play. The King measures 3.75 in. with a 1.438 in. diameter base.  The pieces collectively weigh approx. 1 lb. and feature green felt bottoms. Comes with a black canvas zipper bag to store and carry the pieces. The bag measures 8.5 x 7.25 in.
• STAUNTON STYLE: Staunton design has become the standard for tournament play. The pieces are easily distinguishable making for easier game play. Knights are made to resemble a horse. Kings are the tallest pieces featuring a cross atop a closed crown. Queens are slightly smaller than the kings and feature a coronet topped with a small ball. Rooks feature castle battlements, and bishops resemble a liturgical headdress of a western church. Pawns are the smallest and are topped by a plain ball.
